Governor Anies Wants E-Prix Event to Bring Jakarta on the World Stage

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan hosted Ahmad Sahroni, Chief Executive for Formula E or E-Prix international electric car racing event at Jakarta City Hall, on Monday (11/29). This meeting discussed plans to organize Formula E next year, which is expected to make Jakarta a city that gets international attention.

This is an event that is expected to bring Jakarta and Indonesia as part of the global scene

"We just met him (Mr. Sahroni) discussing Formula E event on June 4, 2022. This is an event that is expected to bring Jakarta and Indonesia as part of the global scene and we all hope it can run successfully," expressed the Governor, as quoted by Jakarta's press release.

He also explained that the meeting with Secretary General of Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) was not the first, previously there had been in-depth discussions regarding Formula E. He also explained why Mr. Sahroni chosen as Chief Executive of E-Prix event.

"This is not the first time, but we need to emphasize we entrust him as Chief Executive for several reasons. He is an experienced in car racing event, which is very necessary when we launch Formula E," he explained.

"He is also chairman of the electric car association which we know Formula E is a car racing using electrical energy. Hence, we realize that it brings a message to all that we need to prepare for the transformation to emission-free transportation modes, one of which is electric-based vehicles," he furthered.

He went on to say that it was also based on his position as secretary general of IMI, which is representative of Formula E Operations (FEO) in Indonesia. Hopefully, it is expected to be a bridge in its implementation, between what are international regulations and provisions and implementation in the field.

"Allow me to say thank you to him who are ready to run this duty. We hope the event goes well, moreover he is originally from Jakarta, precisely from Tanjung Priok, and was indeed tasked with managing an event that puts Jakarta and Indonesia on the global scene," he added.

Aside that, Sahroni explained that he was honored to be appointed as Chief Executive of Formula E event. He hoped, it could move the economy in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, so its implementation should be planned as well as possible.

"I'm honored, this is not the first meeting, we have met several times. I accept this mandate only for the benefit of the Indonesian nation. This is the branding of the country that we must succeed in Formula E event," he explained.

"The concept conducted is not an ordinary event concept. Because this is an international event that will be watched by more than 170 countries, and hopefully it will have an economic effect that is programmed by the government," he closed.
